We will do whatever is possible to restore the value and safety of your vehicle that has been compromised by rust under the windshield. Examples below are of different vehicles we have worked on.
We start out by cleaning away the old urethane bed to make sure all the rust is exposed.
We then remove the rust, getting down to the bare metal as much as possible. This is mostly effective with lighter rust as in the example below.
In extreme cases, as in the example of rust-eaten holes below, additional steps are required.
In the case of heavy rust we use a scaler to remove the loose, flaky rust. This exposes any holes or divots that the rust has created, leaving a solid bed to work with.
With both heavy and light rust we apply a rust retardant chemical to the rust that we cannot remove.
After the rust retardant has dried we then repair any holes with a waterproof fiberglass patching product.
Once the surface of the bed has been properly prepared we apply a pinchweld primer that is specifically manufactured for use with the urethane used to seal the windshield.
The result is a smooth, solid bed that will insure a safe, and effective windshield replacement.
